Gary Gygax has passed away

All across the gamer universe the word is going out-Gary Gygax has passed away.
Gary of course is one of the co-creators of the Dungeons and Dragons game.
He was the acknowledged father of RPG gaming. Gary’s creations have broadened my imagination and given me a wonderful pastime that has brought joy, friends, and creative challenges that I may not otherwise have known. In the next few days, folks more eloquent then I am will give well deserved tribute to the man. For myself, I offer my condolences to his family. I’m sure there’s gonna be one hell of a great game going on in heaven tonight.

  1. This was like a hard blow to the gut. It's hard to believe he's gone. I hope to have a chair at that table someday...

  2. Is it ironic that his death is on GM's Day?

As do we all compadre, but like i said on midnights lair forum:

"He had a great run. He helped create an industry, he touched lives, he sparked creativity, he was the author of many happy memories. We should all be so lucky.

Play D&D (or any game) with your kids. The finest tribute we can give the man is to share the gift he shared with us."

  6. *sigh*

sad news, while I haven't played "D&D" in many years it is obvious none of us would not be playing any RPG's if it wasn't for Gary Gygax..

His creation is the trunk in which all our various rpg's of choice branch from..

Gary Gygax's contributions to our culture are so incredibly far reaching. My poor brain cannot create the words to convey the impact they have had on us..

Through play imaginations are inspired...Litrature, Cinema and all forms of RPG's be it Pen & Paper or PC/Console owe Gygax a huge debt..

    THAC0!!!

I, like so many, owe so very much to Gary. I woke up this morning, read this news, and shed a tear.

The Mrs. asked me what was wrong, and I told her that Gary Gygax had passed on... she put her arms around me and gave me a hug, and said to me: "I really like him in Surviving the Game".

    *sigh*

When I explained that she was thinking of Gary Busey, and told her exactly who Mr. Gygax was (again), I got a much bigger hug.

I tried to write something appropriate on my blog, but I just don't see how any of us can explain how much he meant.

    I'll miss him.

Someone made the comment on one of the many boards discussing Gary's passing that now they understand how someone could be affected deeply by the death of a person they never knew. That person said he used to scoff when people made a big "to do" about the death of Elvis or John Kennedy Jr., etc. after yesterday they wont scoff anymore. For gamers all over the world this loss was very personal. But few outside of the community will realize how deeply we feel this.
