Manly Monday- The Rat Patrol -Brought to you by Camel Cigarettes.

Rat Patrol. I used to live for re-runs of this show. It ran right after "The FBI (a Quinn-Martin production)."

I loved that cool theme and the jeeps jumping over the dunes.
Once again, a six-year old Evil DM could be found on the living room floor strewn with Aifix soldiers- re-creating battles that never were.

The Rat Patrol wasn't real. But these guys were-

Is that a shot of a group of Badass Nazi Killers or what?

  1. I enjoyed this show a lot. I recently read one of the Rat Patrol paperbacks and didn't find it all that great. but I remember the show with fondness.

  2. The show was around for only 2 years but I too remember these 2 years with nostalgia.

BTW: All the episodes are available on 2 DVD sets.

  3. That LRDG photo makes Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds" look like a bunch of milktoasts.

I swear a Rat Patrol episode had the precursor to the Death Star trench run in a scene where you (in the perspective of being in the jeep) were barreling between a row of train freight cars on your left and right while the dude on the .50 (or .30; forget which) is blowing the hell out of things on those cars.

Wonder if Lucas copped that idea.

We owe a massive debt to the 'old and bold' like the LRDG and their counterparts.

My great uncle was a Chindit, he's well into his 80s now and is still hard as nails.

If you like 80's video games, you ought to track down "Jackal" by Konami for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It's inspired by the Rat Patrol, and it's also a good game!
