I first saw Zulu when I was very young. I didn't remember any of the movie except for that scene. Such an impression it made. I rewatched it as an adult several times. Now, I believe I need to watch it again.
What a coincidence seeing this on your blog! I just watched Zulu for the first time a few days ago and was blown away - what an amazing film. This made me appreciate Michael Caine ever more as an actor, especially since it's rare that early performances measure up in quality to later work. He also happens to be in Last Valley, another amazing film and one of my favorites.
An absolute classic even if Henry Hook's characterisation is way off the mark; he was a genuine, modest, clean-living hero in reality.

If you're ever in the U.K. a visit to Brecon and the South Wales Borderers Museum is well worth considering.
Under the definition of "Manly" in the Dictionary they should have a picture of Nigel Green as Colour Sergeant Bourne.
